Explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park from your base in this sweet traditional cottage. The spacious stone-built property sleeps four guests and has a peaceful location in the picturesque village of Burtersett, with lovely views across the rolling hills. Burtersett is on the Pennine Way and the surrounding Dales offer miles of splendid walking trails through this glorious landscape. The 17th-century village pub serves food, and you are just 2 miles from the colourful market town of Hawes, renowned as the home of Wensleydale cheese.

Leave your hiking boots in the handy entrance porch and step inside the bright open-plan lounge, where exposed beams and a stone chimney breast enhance the cottage’s rustic charm. Attractively furnished in soft tones, and with a pretty dining area, this is a welcoming spot to curl on the comfortable sofas before the cosy open fire and watch the Smart TV. Enjoy a wonderful view from the neat kitchen, where you’ll find all you need to get cooking. Upstairs are a family bathroom and two delightful bedrooms: a double and a twin. Outside, a small garden to the front with a table and chairs looks out to the Dales.

Bustling Hawes offers shops, traditional pubs and eateries, along with local produce sold at the town’s weekly market. Book a tour of the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes to discover its fascinating history and taste-test the different varieties of its famous cheese. Visit the fine Dales Countryside Museum, which also houses the National Park Visitor Centre, where you can pick up guides to short scenic walks in and around Hawes. Must-see outdoor attractions include the spectacular Aysgarth Falls (9 miles), Hardraw Force (3 miles) and the beautiful, unspoiled Lake Semerwater.

The cottage was in a lovely setting and very cosy. Steps to second bedroom were a bit dangerous for anyone older or fragile.

Lovely compact cottage, well situated for access to Hawes and surrounding area of Yorks Dales. Stairs from twin room are steep so beware if you have concerns. Very clean and well presented. The cottage was very comfortable, in a quiet location with a lovely view from the kitchen window. It was a privilege to stay in a small village like Burtersett, which is within easy walking distance of Hawes and Gayle, but felt far from overvisited.
