This beautifully restored stone cottage sits in the historic, ‘orchard village’ of Husthwaite, on the edge of the North York Moors. The cottage is ideally located to explore the historic sights and natural beauty of North Yorkshire. Set in ‘Herriot country’, the village has picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby White Horse of Kilburn carved into the hillside in 1857, a 12th-century Norman church, charming houses, a local pub and nearby walking and cycling trails. The Georgian market town of Easingwold (4.5 miles), with its cobbled square and shops, cafes/restaurants and pubs, is well worth a visit and the city of York, rich in history and culture with Roman roots and a Viking past, is a short drive away (18 miles). Also within easy reach are National Trust properties and grand houses including Castle Howard (15 miles).

This is a stylish stone cottage in which stunning original features, reclaimed woods and earthy textures blend with sleek contemporary fittings. Throw open the double doors on a summer’s day to relax with a coffee or dine al fresco on the stone terrace overlooking the cottage’s lawned area or in winter, settle down with one of the cottage’s collection of books or board games. It’s as perfect for a solo or couple’s escape as it is for groups seeking a luxury cottage hideaway. Step inside to a spacious open-plan, calm, inviting and comfortable sitting room. Beautifully furnished and with carefully considered interiors, it’s a great space for enjoying a movie on the large smart TV in front of the wood burner. Large double doors flood the area with light and connect to the garden, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Ground source underfloor heating adds to the comfort and cosiness. Wander through to the handcrafted bespoke kitchen and dining area, equipped with high-end appliances, perfect for preparing breakfasts, summer lunches, and evening suppers. Gather around the built-in seating that accommodates the entire group with ease. As night falls, retreat to one of the three gorgeous bedrooms. The ground-floor bedroom features a king-size bed, smart TV and a wood burner, perfect for chilly nights, and connects to a Jack and Jill bathroom with an impressive walk-in wet room shower, double-ended, stone bath and WC. Upstairs, you’ll find two more serene, cosy retreats with king-size beds (one of which can be made up as twins), each with its own en-suite shower room and WC. Both rooms have a unique yet calming décor with original beams, reclaimed woods and natural linens. There is also a utility room for washing and drying clothes and a convenient space for hanging coats and leaving boots.

Set in private grounds, the cottage has a charming stone terrace with an outdoor dining area and sofa and a lawned area with a woodland view.

We have had the best week at Anthology Cottage. Beautifully comfortable, bright and cheerful. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook when we were not out enjoying supper in one of the fine pubs close at hand. My wife and I visited with our two moms. And absolutely loved it. The surrounding estate with free roaming sheep was lovely. The property itself has been renovated to an exceptional standard. This cottage is beautiful, very clean and comfortable. It has everything we needed for our week away and more. Three good sized bedrooms all with en-suite and a well maintained private garden. The location was perfectly situated for us to explore the North Yorkshire moors and Whitby and there was a good selection of pubs in the local area.
