Treat your small family or group of friends to a stay at this characterful cottage in Pickering and enjoy both the vibrant market town and the beautiful North York Moors National Park. Sleeping four guests, this gorgeous, two-bedroom, stone bolthole has a delightful, courtyard garden with views over towards Pickering Castle. It is also close to the famous heritage steam railway with its trains from Pickering to Whitby on the coast.

Take two steps up to reach the front door of this stylish hideaway then enter to remove your outerwear in the hall. Head on through to the beamed lounge to light the wood burner in the stone fireplace and take stock of the day as you relax together over a cup of tea or glass of wine on the soft seating. Wander through to the kitchen/diner to whip up a homecooked meal for your party on those evenings you choose not to book a table at a local eatery. There is also a handy WC downstairs. When you are ready to turn in for the night, climb the stairs up to the first floor of the cottage to lay your head in either one of the sumptuous double bedrooms. Each of these has the luxury of an en-suite shower room. Spill out into the Yorkshire sunshine on warm days. Have morning coffee and breakfast out here before setting off on your adventures.

The cottage is located close to the railway track, but the view is largely obscured this time of year by the foliage of the trees and wild area opposite. It is well located for the NYMR station and for the town centre. The cottage is dark inside if the sun isn't shining, but that is the nature of an old building. I personally found the bed too hRead moreard and my daughter also found her bed to be the same. I know that beds have to withstand a lot of use by different people, but it just wasn't comfortable. The cottage is well equipped and there is a range of pots and pans if you want to eat in. There is also a plethora of cleaning equipment which you need to use before you leave. It was not pointed out that we should contact the owner 24 hours in advance, so with only one bed made up as there were only two people coming to stay, the owner was put to the inconvenience of returning with additional bedding. The management company should make this clear, but don't, so be warned. Parking, via a permit left in the property, was good and readily available at the end of the day. There is a welcome basket of food and a bottle left for clients but we were unable to take advantage of these due to special dietary requirements. For a train enthusiast, you couldn't wish for a better located property. Be aware though, that if you like a lie in, trains do start running quite early in the day, so look at the timetable to see when your 'alarm call' will be activated. Hide

The details provided by Original Cottages. As much as the cottage was very nice, clean and quiet, the unloading and loading of the car was stressful as their is no car parking, you are causing traffic disruption when doing so as traffic is two-way and cars are having to stop to allow other cars coming in the opposite direction. Although we were aRead moreware that there was no parking, the picture of the road looked like it was a side road and not a main route. That was the only drawback of the property. The owners were very helpful indeed. Hide
