We've thoroughly enjoyed our time at Badgers Rest. It's been great being so close to the railway and the year long ticket has allowed us to get out and about all week without using the car. Some great local walks, and plenty of steam trains, including the unexpected blessing of Sir Nigel Crossley, make a great combination. The engine shed was fasciRead morenating to see, especially if you like watching the end of the day "putting the engine to bed process". Well equipped and comfortable cottage, thank you especially for the welcome gifts and local information. Both Whitby & Pickering were worth the visit as were walks around Goathland and along the Esk Valley Trail to Whitby. With an annual pass for the railway we hope to visit again soon. Hide

Had a great short break at Badgers Rest. The cottage has everything you need and is warm and welcoming. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise. Great cottage in a great location. As a family of 4 the cottage was a perfect base for our adventures in Whitby, Staithes, Sandsend plus a lovely circular walk to Goathland, Mallyan spout & Beck hole on the old Rail Trail. Grosmont is a lovely place to stay especially in Badgers Rest. I recommend Dalby forest for kids. It has a climbing course, park, gift shop, cafe and mountain biking. Whitby is also lovely to go on the train and get fish and chips and then go the the Abbey with 199 steps. Pickering and Goathland were good. In Goathland there is a great park for kidRead mores. We also enjoyed the station, right outside our doorstep. We loved going out for dinner in really nice places. We recommend the Fox and Rabbit at Lockton to eat. Every time we went there it was always really good. If you like going out for walks I would recommend going from here to Beck Hole. It's about an hour and once you get there there's a pub and a sweet shop. If I have to say I really recommend this place for holidays. Hide

We've had such a lovely stay in this home, thank you so much! Very clean and well appointed. Of course it's the best location we could ask for, especially with two little train enthusiasts. We've enjoyed evening strolls to the engine sheds to see the steam engines being put to sleep, walks on the old tracks in many directions (to Beck Hole was our Read morefavourite) and of course a ride on the train to Goathland. For food, we've enjoyed cake at the Old School Coffee Shop, great curd tarts and Pizza on Monday evenings. Also a quick drive to Sleights to stop at Radfords the Butchers and Bothams of course. I believe we visited a waterfall each day, each unique and memorable (mostly memorable for the journey to get close to them!). Make sure to take the long route to Falling Foss. Great WIFI, great washer dryer, comfy beds - we've slept so well! Fast smart TV. Brill parking space. Extremely happy first guests!! Thank you. Hide
