While away hours at a time gazing out across the magnificent Swaledale scenery from this gorgeous Yorkshire cottage. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom retreat is set in an enviable position near Feetham, 13 miles from Richmond and in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With a lawned garden for basking in the summer sunshine and two wood burners for winter warming, the picture-postcard, stone hideaway is perfect for a family or a group of friends.

Follow the garden path and take three steps up to make your way inside the cottage. Light the wood burner in the spacious kitchen/diner on chilly days then set about preparing a homecooked spread with the fresh Yorkshire ingredients you have bought on your latest trip out. Gather round the table to enjoy the dishes you have made then retire to the beamed lounge to light the other wood burner, find a film on TV and enjoy a pleasant evening in together. There is also a handy utility and drying room at ground-floor level. As dusk falls and you feel ready to turn in for the night, head upstairs for an excellent sleep in the king-size bedroom, with en-suite shower room, the twin or the double. The family bathroom is also here. Take your morning coffee out into the sunny, sloped garden on warm mornings. Dine out here later on as well, taking in the panoramic views. There is an outbuilding for storing bikes and space for one car to park off-road at the cottage.

Stride off on scenic walks alongside the River Swale and across the fells from your doorstep. Plan day trips into Richmond to explore its pretty streets, ponder in its independent shops and dine out in its pubs and cafes. Visit the clifftop, Norman castle while you are here.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable and in a lovely position with views up and down the dale. Nice gesture in leaving the tea/coffee bags and biscuits. The parking at the rear was a bit risky having to park very close to the wall and trees to allow other vehicles to pass. There is a parking space directly behind the cottage but this is reseRead morerved for a local farm. There is access to the adjoining cottages at the front which we were not aware of and I was surprised to see someone walking their dog past our window one morning. The furniture and fittings were first class but the cottage was somewhat spartan inside and was not home from home as a lot of cottages are. Only one tea towel had been left and we had to buy washing up liquid as only a small tube of washing up liquid had been left. Likewise, we had to buy loo rolls which we have never had to do when renting cottages for over 30 years. There was a smell outside the front of the cottage at times which i believe was coming from the septic tank. Overall, a nice cottage and in the main well equipped, but I feel the owners should consider the little things which guests normally expect when renting. Hide

The cottage is well-equipped and very clean and comfortable. The view over the valley to the hills is fantastic and can be enjoyed either from inside the house or in the quiet garden. As mentioned in other reviews the local Punchbowl Inn is within easy walking distance and serves very good food. HOWEVER - vehicle access to the cottage is very diffiRead morecult. There are 2 main access tracks but these are very narrow and in poor condition with potholes. We understand that some guests have had to call a local garage after dropping into a pothole on the western exit track. We have a large saloon car and found access and parking difficult. Parking in the village is not practicable if luggage or groceries are to be carried. Access will be easier for an SUV but for our family we are unlikely to return despite the superb quality of the cottage. Hide

We loved Windyridge, it was perfect for our Christmas break. Both the kitchen/diner and lounge were nicely decorated. The cottage was toasty warm and well equipped, even the knives were sharp, a rare thing in holiday cottages.
