  • Elegant Georgian townhouse in elevated position between park and harbour
  • Private courtyard plus a suntrap garden with views over the town
  • Lots of space for a group of eight family or friends, with multiple reception rooms

Property code: OC-W474

Gather friends and family for a luxurious break in this stunning holiday home on the Yorkshire coast. The period property boasts a quiet location in a leafy, residential area of Whitby, yet is just 0.5 miles from its bustling streets, working harbour, and sandy beach. There are some stunning walks branching away from the town, following The Cleveland Way and Cinder Track, and nearby day trips include Staithes (10 miles) and Scarborough (20 miles).

The Grade II-listed townhouse is arranged across four floors and is awash with original features and quirky artefacts. The property has two entrances – one via the courtyard at lower-ground-floor level and one via a flight of stairs to the ground floor. On the lower ground floor you’ll find an open-plan kitchen/diner for hosting memorable mealtimes. The stylish kitchen area has everything you need to whip up delicious feasts, and the stunning dining table with leather chairs provides a comfortable space for entertaining. Completing this level is a games room with a football table, as well as a handy sink and washing machine for dealing with sandy beach gear. Upstairs, via a spiral staircase, are two opulent living areas, both with high ceilings, original sash windows, and luxurious fixtures and fittings. Come together in the drawing room to chat around the open fire or watch a film on the Smart TV. Alternatively, curl up in the snug with your favourite book. On the first floor you’ll find two stunning bedrooms, one of which has steps down to an en-suite shower room. This floor also houses a spacious bathroom. The top floor is home to the remaining bedrooms, along with a magnificent family bathroom with a free-standing bath. There is a small, enclosed courtyard to the rear with outdoor furniture, as well as a sunny front garden where you can soak up some rays and watch the world go by.

You’ll find plenty to see and do in Whitby. Head down to the harbour to watch the fishing boats coming and going, or perhaps join a boat trip to go exploring off the coast. The town has a fabulous array of eateries to dine in, or perhaps pick up a bag of fish and chips or some smoked kippers to take home for your supper. Step back in time with a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where you can chug by steam train though the unspoilt countryside from Whitby to the market town of Pickering (18 miles).

Fabulous property - highly recommended. The owners have put a lot of thought into everything you could possibly need to make your stay at The Old Theatre as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. Its location is excellent - within walking distance of all key attractions and close to the pick up point for the Whitby tour bus (great value).

We absolutely loved the property. It is very well equipped and well presented. Slight issues with bed sheets. Hard bits of plastic stuck on sheets ? a laundry issue. The house is in a great location but with that comes the challenge of parking. We parked on the Street behind the house and used parking permits as advised. Our car was seriouslyRead more damaged by what I suspect are local residents. The car had to be written off by the insurance company. It was smashed with a hammer and then covered in baked beans yoghurt carrots and chocolate powder. Not the MO of passing youths that are up to mischief. Police informed. There had been previous case. Sadly we contacted the booking company and owners and have not received any response from either party. Hide

What a lovely property. We booked the Old Theatre for Christmas and it was great, there were 6 of us and two dogs, and the property had been nicely decorated for us. Location is really handy for quick and easy access to the town. You get provided with parking permits for one car for the duration of the stay, the street where the property is is a deRead moread end and parking is tight but once you're parked up you have everything you need on your doorstep. The house itself has a bit of a quirky but fun layout, it's really quiet as well which is nice. Having two living rooms is also really good if you want to escape for a little bit or leave the kids to it in another room. The kitchen is also really well appointed with all the equipment you'll need, we've never seen so many glasses! If you do bring dogs then be aware there is no grass area, just a courtyard at the rear and a patio area to the front but this was fine for us and it's only a few minutes walk to the beach. There is also a small park at the top end of the street. We would certainly stay here again as and when we come back with a group. Hide
