Property code: OC-DS666

Holiday in style with loved ones and pets at this pretty stone cottage in pretty Gunnerside, buried deep in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This two-storey retreat is brimming with character, with its quaint rustic decor enhancing its traditional charm. You’ll have scenic walks through unspoilt countryside accessible with no car and, to reward you when you return, a wonderful country pub 400 metres from your front door. With space for four over its two bedrooms, it’s just right for a family, a couple or two couples holidaying together.

Scale the stone staircase to reach the front door, then step into the homely kitchen/diner, which has an original flagstone floor and beamed ceiling. Cook up feasts in this farmhouse-style setting, then enjoy them all together at the four-seater dining table. The gorgeous lounge has two sash windows yielding inspiring views of Swaledale, to be savoured with a Dolce Gusto coffee from the machine. A Smart TV is on hand for when you want to put your feet up, while a wood burner ensure you stay cosy. At the front of the cottage, you’ll have a paved area where you can dine al fresco on mild evenings.

When it’s time to explore your surroundings, take the dogs for a walk in the Gunnerside Gill valley (2 miles) or embark on the 6-mile trek to Buttertubs, where 20-metre-deep limestone potholes offer a unique viewing experience – the views from here are truly spectacular. If you’re keen to experience Yorkshire town life, drive to Richmond (16 miles), where you can wander through pretty streets, visit the castle, indulge in some shopping and perhaps enjoy a show at the Georgian playhouse.

We had a really relaxing stay at South Steps and loved that we could take our dogs along too. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and so cosy. The cottage was in a beautiful area and we enjoyed walking in the Dales every day ( rain or shine). Great to have the village pub so nearby too.

This is our second visit to South Steps and apart from the issue with the patio it is brilliant. If we were sitting outside we had to keep the dog on a lead.

This is a lovely cottage in a prime, central position for exploring the Dales. Reeth, Richmond and Wensleydale are all easy to access by car and its situated right on a delightful walk to Muker. The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, and felt homely and comfortable. We loved it!

We loved South Steps Cottage! - it was so beautifully presented and full of character. The log burner made the living room really cosy after a long day exploring the Dales and it was great to have a friendly local pub a few minutes walk away. The village is a lovely, traditional Yorkshire Dales one with mostly stone-built cottages and cobbled laneRead mores. With lovely views up to the hills which surround the village. Highly recommended! South Steps cottage is a very comfortable, well euipped holiday cottage in a lovely village. Having a parking spot was great, there is parking by the green but it was quite busy. A lovely well cared for cottage in a lovely location. It benefits from a parking spot directly outside the cottage, it's a year round cottage as it's well heated. The pub is a few yards away (do check the opening hours if you are visiting off season) and there are plenty of walks in every direction either for a stroll or full on hike.
