After booking I was worried due to two previous reviews, however after contacting Holiday Cottages they looked into issues and ensured that everything was rectified before our stay. This house was disgusting. It was filthy. The only things that were acceptable were the beds. The floors were filthy, the kitchen was dirty. The dirt, dust and cobwebs in corners, round skirtings, on lampshades etc was unacceptable. Don't even think anyone had hoovered. Mould all the way down the seal on the fridge, splatters down the cupboards in Read morethe kitchen, dishes and cutlery were dirty. One of the pots still had dried in food in it. I spent a whole week here and couldn't sit on the couches as they looked so grubby I couldn't relax. All the windows down the stairs, and some of the windows up the stairs were painted shut, and one in the largest bedroom was broken, so couldnt be held open. When we were here the weather was going up to 30C, so windows opening shpuld have been something wr dodnt have to request. Also, pretty dangerous if you are staying here with young kids, as when they do open, there's nothing to stop a child falling out. A handy man had to come in and use some sort of grinder or saw to open them all for us, and cleaners had to come in and clean again, which only helped slightly and i think they thought if they just made the place smell of bleach, that would solve the problems. The place smelt foosty. There was a rug in the largest bedroom that I had to lift because it not only looked disgusting, but smelt disgusting. The gardens were unusable. The pictures show a small seeating area at the front of the property. That is non existent. The back court was filthy. The "summer house" was locked shut and full of junk and the seats were broken and rotting. The front of the house looks so old, tatty and run down tjat at first I didn't recognise it when we arrived as the house from the ad. Parking I'd an utter nightmare. No idea what the permit is for because it doesn't seem it's necessary at the back of the property as no other cars had a permit displayed and you'll be lucky to get a space in there and people come and double park all thw way along the lane and block each other in. The window are really old and single glazed and absolutely manky. Honestly some of the frames looked like they hadn't even been given a wipe down in years. The big heavy roman blinds and pinned in place so you can't open them which makes the place feel dingey. There is a pub about 100 meters across the road, so if they have anything on, good luck getting to sleep no matter what room you are in. Also, the washing machine could be doing with a clean as it left clothes with a slight sour smell and nothing to hang clothes outside to dry. Honestly don't waste your money here. It's not the cheapest. We requested to be moved or have some sort of refund, but apparently they don't do that. I stuck it out because my little boy was so disappointed when I said we would need to go home, and kids don't care as much luckily. Hide

We had an issue with regard to the advertised photographs of the property and the actual reality. We were also dissapointed about the cleanliness of the property. So much so that we felt we needed to contact HolidayCottages.co.uk who to their credit did offer an apology and assurance that issues raised would be addressed; hopefully any future guestRead mores will have a more favourable experience. On a more positive note, the beds were comfortable with very clean bedding and the bathrooms were also very clean and well appointed. The welcome pack was a nice touch but didn't include essentials like milk/bread, there were tea bags, jam, prosecco and coffee. Also guests need to take some cleaning supplies as these weren't provided except for washing up liquid and sponge. As mentioned by other reviewers parking was an issue. If you are lucky enough to get a space you could get blocked in on road at the back of the property. The COOP (next to the station and near to the property) offers money back on their car park if you purchase items from the store, eg pay for two hours 3 spend 20 in store and carpark fee refunded. There is a free overnight car park on the harbour car park opposite the COOP 6pm to 9am. The scratch cards weren't much use as all roads that they can be used on were not near to the property and I believe they're not valid for overnight parking, very confusing. You are given two parking permits scratch cards that last 4 days each but if travelling with two cars then not much use. Noise at the weekend was horrendous from local hostelries and also the adjoining neighbours had a karaoke hot tub party til about 5 am which meant sleep was impossible on the first night. Traffic noise was bearable. We felt that the details on the website should be updated to reflect the reality as it seems as if the photos were taken a good few years ago and some property maintenance is required. It is a very roomy property and easily accommodated 6 Adults, 1 toddler and 1 dog. We had an issue with regard to the advertised photographs of the property and the actual reality. We had stayed in the same place ( 5 Victoria Terrace) last year and liked the fact it was central and we knew about the parking and where everything was situated.

The house is lovely, the location is perfect, and we had a fabulous family holiday in Whitby. But the kitchen was not as clean as it should have been, also there were no cleaning products provided. No parking permit provided, as stated, and missing tv equipment (did not match the house description - unsure as whether it was incorrect, broken or stoRead morelen). Raised a complaint with Original cottages on the day (saturday), but it was not until I received a call from Jo (original cottages).that she helped us out and organised a welcome pack (which was missing) and cleaning products.
