An elegant Edwardian townhouse set in the charming fishing town of Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast. This sophisticated coastal property is ideal for a long overdue reunion with old friends or a relaxing family retreat. Early birds of the group can climb the 199 stone steps to witness a breathtaking sunrise across the gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey (700 metres), before refuelling with a hearty breakfast at the glossy feasting table.

This contemporary home boasts a curated interior with high ceilings, fresh minimalist decor, and ocean blue tones weaved throughout. Unravel coats and kick off shoes in the hallway then pad into the spacious lounge. Crack open a chilled tipple and recline on the sofas as you debrief on the day’s adventures. Stepping up, potter in the kitchen/diner. Whip up a feast using seasonal seafood ingredients in the modern kitchen with marble-style worktops. Top off glasses with some bubbly, then congregate for a leisurely evening of festivities bathed in the glow of the artistic hanging light. Enjoy a relaxing rinse in the sleek tiled shower room before turning in for the night. Slide into the soft sheets of the two king-sized bedrooms on the first floor, each with solid wooden furniture. Ascending to the second floor, discover a further airy twin and an adaptable super-king. Completing the property is a small, enclosed yard – the perfect spot for catching some rays with a brew in hand.

Pack a picnic and while away sun-soaked afternoon lounging on the shores of Whitby Beach (300 metres) or hire out a colourful beach chalet for the ultimate seaside experience. Saunter through Whitby’s labyrinth of cobbled streets and refuel with a harbourside lunch (400 metres) before discovering the rich smuggling past of Robin Hood’s Bay (6 miles).

Second time staying here. Spacious, comfortable, warm house in a good location. There was space for our three cars on the road outside which is always a bonus in Whitby.

A warm and welcoming house. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, fabulous location and a well equipped house. Parking a bit problematic but was eventually resolved. Would definitely stay again.

The property is a great property at the heart of Whitby, but the parking at the arrival time was impossible as it is permit parking and all spaces nearby were taken at the time of arrival. However, we were able to park opposite the property the following morning and did not move the car until we left. The cleaners do need to be sacked though, the pRead moreroperty was covered in dirt and dust. My wife sent me out for cloths and cleaning spray to clean the surfaces, as she didn't want to make a fuss. I vacuumed the whole property and was very surprised to find it difficult for it to pick up anything and I had no need to empty the collector over the three floors, we then went out. The following morning, I serviced the hoover, removing a wigs worth of hair from the roller, a small duvet of dust, dirt and dander from the filter area and cleaned the completely clogged filter sponge. The hoover was now able to pick up and the two collection compartments were filled with dirt, dust and dander from each room carpet, needing to be emptied 6 or 7 times over the whole property carpets and skirting boards. As my wife didn't want to make a fuss with having an autistic daughter, but instead just address the problem ourselves, I spent a few hours solving the filthy, dusty carpets. I did sneak out to inform the office around the corner about the situation and was told they would talk to the cleaning team and I was given a complaint link to raise a complaint on. Some of the white bath towels provided were also stained. There were several grotty looking frying pans in the kitchen cupboards that also need to be thrown out. I would recommend this property if the cleaning was addressed. Hide

Ellingham House is ideal for a family of 8. We were all very comfortable in this well furnished house, situated centrally and very close to useful shops , i.e. Poundland ! This turned out to be a great base for all our interests and activities.

Stayed at Ellingham House over Easter weekend. Pros - location for visiting Whitby is really good (maybe 5 mins walk to the river) and property generally a good size/well equipped (although showing some signs of wear and tear). Cons - this may be churlish but property is "just a house", no "wow factor" such as a great view or a really special room Read moreto be in. Ellingham works much better as a base than a destination. Also, I will knock a star off for parking. Not the property's fault but the streets are very tight. When I arrived on Good Friday (admittedly a very busy weekend) I could not get parked and had to leave car miles away from house. If I was arriving in a big group/with many cars I would think twice because I wouldn't guarantee getting >1 car parked nearby. Hide
