Property code: OC-W442

A delightful fisherman’s cottage with a suntrap roof terrace, nestled in a peacfeul corner of Whitby on the burbling banks of the River Esk. This beautifully rustic retreat is the ideal base for small families or groups of friends holidaying with their waggy-tailed companion. Run barefoot along the soft shoreline of Whitby Sands Beach (100 metres) and crash through the waves for an invigorating morning paddle, before tucking into an indulgent breakfast spread on the rooftop patio.

Brimming with character, this homely hideaway features a warm chalet interior. Picture striking timber panelling and antique-style furnishings balanced by clean lines and contemporary soft furnishings. After a day by the sea, slip off sandy shoes and relax in the welcoming lounge. Flop down amongst the plump throw pillows graze through a snack board or throw another log on the roaring wood burner and unwind with a film. Cook up an evening feast in the sleek shaker kitchen and pour a round of pre-dinner drinks on the wooden worktops. Adorn the extending dining table with supper then raise a toast to your special occasion. End the evening with an al fresco nightcap beneath the stars before turning in for the night. Curl up in the soft sheets of the opulent four-poster double bed on the first floor. Ascend the stair to the second floor to discover two airy singles styled with dreamy blue hues and nautical stripes.

Dive into a bag of salty chips and admire fisherman’s boats gliding in the harbour (200 metres) or settle in for a more formal dining affair at one of the waterfront seafood restaurants. Feel the salty ocean spray aboard a whale-spotting boat ride (200 metres) or sample a selection of locally crafted beers during a guided tour of the Whitby Brewery (400 metres).

I enjoyed staying at Ladybird Cottage. The bed was very comfortable with nice cotton sheets. The towels were lovely and the kitchen was very well equipped. The shower needs attention though; there was a notice in the bathroom acknowledging that it wasn't working properly and there were instructions about how to deal with it, however it still didn'tRead more work properly. It kept switching itself off unless we kept the start button pressed constantly for as long as we were showering. It should be noted that the stairs are not at all suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet. There could have been a terrible accident. We managed okay though but we had to take care on the stairs and also on the landing coming out of the bedroom. Hide

A lovely cosy, quirky and very well equipped cottage in a great central location in the old town. So peaceful although in the centre of everything going on in the old town. Look forward to returning!

Great things: well-maintained, centrally located property. All the equipment you're likely to need for your holiday. Step out of the door and in a few steps, you're in the heart of the town. In spite of this, because it's located on a snicket (or ginnel or alleyway whatever you prefer) very few people pass by. Also, we heard next-to no noise from tRead morehe adjoining houses Things to consider: steps upstairs to bedrooms are pretty steep - anyone with mobility issues would struggle. TV is limited in terms of access to streaming channels, which is no problem if the weather's good and you're out, but on rainy evenings..... Finally, we found the central heating came on at odd times (3.45am?!). I think this was because it is only controlled by temperature and not on a timer at all. It worked VERY well but we should have remembered to turn it down at night :-). Once again, only an issue during the cooler months. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again Hide

Great cottage - would use again and recommend to others - had a slight issue with parking scratch card which meant we had to pay for parking for first 24 hours but was promptly sorted by holiday cottages the next morning - unpacking the car is a bit of challenge when arriving at such a busy time but we managed. Brilliant little cottage in superb location. Not noisy despite being in centre of town. Have stayed there before and loved it so we were very pleased to see that it was still being kept to high standards. Spotlessly clean and everything you need for a comfortable stay was provided. Will definitely stay there again.

Our second year staying in this fab property. Lovely comfy, well-equipped cottage in the perfect location. Smack in the centre of town, so very convenient, yet in a cosy quiet ginnel. Would thoroughly recommend.

The central location is great, if not a little noisy because to that. We were promised parking scratch cards, but got none. I presume that is part of the cost of the rental, so we lost out there. I did try and call several times on the Saturday when we arrived, but the phone was never answered. I did then email my concern that day, but this was Read morestill not responded to until Tuesday, by which time Id made other arrangements. Hide

Recently stayed for a week in the cottage. It is in a good location being very close to shops and pubs. The weather was good during the day but dropped cold at night. The central heating on the upper 2 floors didnt not work. There are 2 electric radiators provided which we used but they didnt really give sufficient heat. There are instructions on Read morehow to operate the shower inside the bathroom cabinet which we didnt see initially. Even when these were followed it was frustrating having to stand and adjust the shower for a few minutes before being able to get in. The front door is very draughty and it can be noisy as staff from the restaurant stand outside the door opposite to talk and smoke. The log burner was lovely but you need to provide your own logs. The kitchen is well equipped and there was kitchen roll, cling film, foil and washing up liquid provided. There was also tea, coffee, biscuits and some milk which was nice. There are 2 bedrooms sleeping 4 and a sofa bed. However we feel it would be quite cramped if there were 4 adults staying. Response from holidaycottages.co.uk: Thank you for your review. Weve dealt with the issues these have now been resolved. Hide

This is a lovely little cottage, perfectly placed within Whitby right in the centre of town, but tucked nicely away, and amazingly quiet given it's location. It was the ideal place to stay for exploring the town and the whole family loved it. We would highly recommend this accommodation.

Drop off point is poor when you have to unload and load your luggage then have to carry along ro house. Drove round for 2 hours trying to look for parking zones for scratch card areas, still didn't find any , so had to park elsewhere! Mattress is poor in main bedroom.
