Tucked away within a beautiful green meadow, this shepherd’s hut is a wonderful escape for couples seeking some much-needed time out. Compact, yet with all the necessities you could need, it is set within the grounds of the owner’s country house, also shared with three other holiday cottages. Make the most of the peace and quiet at the hut, enjoy the use of a shared games room or book a Tai Chi lesson or a guided walk with the owner.

Accessed via two external steps, the hut features an open-plan layout, with hard flooring, a unique night sky-inspired ceiling, and an electric heater to keep you nice and toasty in the chillier months. The comfy double bed lies on one side of the room and enjoys panoramic views over the meadow through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Snuggle under the covers to watch some TV or rustle up some snacks in the kitchen space which lies at the other end of the hut. A shower room completes the interior. Outside, the private decked area is the cherry on the cake, with a table and chairs perfectly placed to enjoy a south-facing view of the rolling fields.

If you fancy dining out, a friendly local pub is only 1 mile away and the nearest shop is 1.5 miles. And no stay here is complete without visiting the historic fishing village of Staithes, 2 miles away. Wander along the harbour and admire the fleet of cobles (traditional fishing boats) and pick up some mementos of your trip from one of the boutique shops and galleries. More seaside fun can be found in Whitby (12 miles), the home of Whitby Abbey and its impressive 199 steps.

The Shepherds Hut is idyllically situated. It is clean, well equipped and comfortable, having a high standard of necessary amenities. This was my second visit and I hope, not my last. Thank you.

loved staying in the shepherds hut at ridge hall, such a nice little blot hole if you want to get away from everyday life, great views and no traffic or street lights to spoil the place.

Small but perfectly formed! For the space there is in this shepherds hut, everything has been well thought out and provided for you. The only issue I had (and this will not affect everyone) moving around the bed space was difficult but not impossible and you get used to the best way to do it. We enjoyed the fabulous views outside (despite the odd dRead moreog walker walking across the front of the window staring in) and Nicky the host was wonderful in greeting us and giving us some local knowledge. It was very clean and cozy and a fabulous base for a week on the coast. Hide

Everything about the stay was perfect. The Shepherds hut was very clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The owner was very helpful and advised us of great places to visit and delicious places to eat. I would highly recommend the Shepherds hut to couples looking to switch off and recharge their batteries.

It was great to be the only shepherd hut in the field, valley. The hut was a great location to walk and travel from and it was very clean with all modern conveniences possible to place in a hut. We watched bats, saw young pheasants and listen to and saw bird of prey. Thank you.

Amazingly good use of space, lots of storage space, clean, well equipped, warm, welcoming, brilliant surroundings, peaceful, no light pollution or noise, save that of nature, heavenly.

Stunning , peaceful and picturesque location near to Staithes located in a field opposite the owners home. Stayed 3 nights solo traveller. Well designed and great quality kitchen and bathroom in the hut. Lovely and clean apart from the flat sheet on the bed had several animal hairs on it and the duvet itself had stains on it. The mattress was aRead morelso uncomfortable. This did not match the quality of the rest of the hut not sure why ? The owner was slow to respond to contact but did change the bedding. The overall welcome was not great and the hosting skills did not match the location or quality of the hut which was a shame and tarnished the experience. Hide

The Shepherds Hut was a lovely little escape with a fantastic view, without the need to get out of bed! The hot water supply, shower pressure and soft towels were also very pleasing. I would have no qualms about staying again or recommending it to others.
