Property code: OC-DS226

Switch off the gadgets and really get away from it all at this high-end hideaway. Accommodating three adults in chic country style, it has a gorgeous summerhouse and offers local fishing rights.

This oh-so-desirable detached residence blends original features with a craftsman-built interior. One of a small number of properties at the head of the Mallerstang Valley, it has a contemporary open-plan layout which means that, once through the porch, you step straight into a stunning lounge/kitchen/diner that’s clearly been created with both style and comfort in mind. Porcelain tiles over underfloor heating and a feature fireplace with a wood burner promise warm toes whatever the weather, and there’s a choice of seating to stretch out on as you watch TV or listen to music on the Bose surround-sound system. A dining suite sits to one side, while at the other end of this space, there’s a pretty, modern kitchen with all the self-catering essentials. Finishing off the ground floor is the bathroom. Upstairs, there’s a beautiful master bedroom with its own TV and an en-suite shower room, and a further single bedroom. The owners of this property are keen to make it a real retreat, so made a conscious decision not to have Wi-Fi (a mobile phone booster has been fitted to the property, however, so a good phone signal, 3G & 4G are available indoors). Recharge your batteries by immersing yourselves in the nature that surrounds – there’s an enclosed grassed and patio area to the front of the cottage, plus a beautifully furnished summerhouse with far-reaching views where you can unwind with a book or watch for wildlife… there’s a TV here, too, if you want to catch up with your favourite programmes!

Guests here have use of a permit for 15 miles of double bank fishing on the River Ure – noted for its Brown Trout and Grayling –which is close by. Six miles away, Hawes is the highest market town in England and home of the world-famous Wensleydale Creamery.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 single

  • Gas hob, electric oven, grill, fridge with icebox, freezer, microwave, washing machine
  • Welcome pack
  • 2 TVs (1 with Freeview), Bluetooth speaker, Bose surround sound system
  • Please note, due to the rural location of this property, there is no Wi-Fi
  • Mobile signal is variable
  • Wood burner (first basket of logs included)
  • Enclosed garden with patio space
  • Private parking for 2 cars (please ensure you close the gate as there are free-roaming sheep)
  • Pub 6 miles
  • Shop 6 miles
  • Regret, children under 17 and infants under 2 are not allowed at this property
  • Fishing permit provided (from Lunds to Bainbridge beat)
  • The approach to the property is via a well-maintained gravel track

  • The property has a spring-fed water supply which means that it can be discoloured at times.
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards

Lovely, well-equipped cottage in a wonderfully peaceful rural location. The summer-house is a real bonus enabling those staying to make the most of the landscape views without being exposed to the elements (or the midges).

Cosy and comfortable cottage in an idyllic and rural location. Fantastic attention to detail and a lovely welcome hamper plus super toiletries too. Good location for exploring the local area by car, but equally good for local walks from the door. The summerhouse is wonderful for watching the local wildlife. Hawes is close by with shops and places Read moreto eat. The lake district is within an hours drive. But we loved returning to the tranquility of Blades each evening and just relaxing and chilling out. Hide

What a glorious weeks weather we have had. It made our stay at Blades an idyllic holiday. Even better than last year. Every walk and trip was memorable, even the cuckoo seemed to be enjoying it. We have already booked for next year. A fabulous gem of a cottage.
