This coastal bolthole enjoys a central location in the charming town of Whitby. Perfect for couples and small families, you can enjoy sunset strolls around the harbour from your front door and spend endless afternoons building sandcastles and splashing in the sea at the beach (200 metres). You’ll also be surrounded by a fine collection of independent shops and restaurants. In the evenings, unwind on the balcony and watch the fishing boats returning with their catch of the day.

Traditional stone steps lead to the cottage. Inside, discover a bright and airy holiday home, with elegant furniture and accessories throughout. In the lounge, your eyes will be drawn to the magnificent view through the French doors, and you’ll also find comfortable furniture to relax on and a Freesat TV and DVD player for your entertainment. A stylish kitchen and a shower room are also on this level. Cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor, which houses a beautiful double bedroom with harbour views and an en-suite bathroom. There is also a cosy twin, with a characterful sloping ceiling. Outside, the gorgeous balcony enjoys views across the water.

Whitby has four fabulous beaches. Just 200 metres away is the secluded Tate Hill Beach, where you can enjoy peaceful picnics and strolls along the shoreline. Alternatively, head to the hubbub of West Cliff Beach, which is a family-friendly spot with colourful beach huts and traditional seaside amenities. The cottage is ideally placed for exploring Whitby’s old town, with its cobbled streets and quaint eateries. You’ll also be near the old smokehouse, where you can pick up some tasty kippers for your supper. Climb the 199 steps to admire the ruins of Whitby Abbey, and also join the dramatic coast path which leads to the fishing villages of Staithes (10 miles) and Robin Hood’s Bay (6 miles).

Property is ideally located for shops, restaurants, 199 steps etc. On arrival we found that one of the small pains of glass in the front door had been boarded over with wood, right by the lock, this was not highlighted to us prior to arrival. The quirky French door lock, as described in cottage file is not quirky but ill fitted lock/doors. The propRead moreerty is very tired and dated, tub chairs are uncomfortable, so if 4 of you are staying in for the evening youre better off sitting on the floor. This is an expensive property to rent, we realise now you are paying for the view and location. Cleanliness could be better, I found a bra top behind a bedroom unit and clump of hair on bedroom carpet on arrival. En suite bath/shower area very mouldy on grout and silicone.not what youd expect for 900+ per week. This property has been awarded a 3 star rating by Yorkshire cottages back in 2019, I dont think it would receive the same accolade today. Hide

We love Smugglers Cottage and the location. However the cleanliness and hygiene of the property has completely deteriorated. We had to clean stair bannister and doors. And the en-suite was smelly and dirty. The coffee tables need replacing as they are very old now and spoil the decor. The cottage is very overpriced but this is due to its location aRead morend especially the balcony. We have appreciated the discounts that have been awarded. Hide

We had a splendid week - wish it had been a little warmer to be able to sit out on the balcony more often. The situation of the cottage could not have been better.

We really loved the cottage, only down side was that the yard were the cottage was. Needed some attention.. Has first impressions were not good. A small window in the cottage door had cardboard up has it looked like a pane of glass was broken, and was off putting. Flowers would have brightened it up, even if plastic.

Perfect location, balcony was a bonus. Just the two of us so enough room, may be a little small for four adults. Lounge seating could be better.
