Property code: OC-WA040

Treat your loved one to a romantic getaway in this cosy stone barn conversion. Beautifully furnished to reflect its character and charm, this one-bedroom hideaway offers a memorable setting for a staycation. It is one of a complex of four cottages as well as a fabulous shepherd's hut which sit opposite the owner’s country house, and is brimming with original features such as exposed wooden beams, a cosy wood burner and a unique gallery bedroom.

The heart of the home is the open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining room. After a day of adventure, you can settle on the sofa and watch a film together on the TV in the warm glow of the wood burner. When you’re feeling peckish, you can rustle up a meal for two in the kitchen and serve it up at the dining table. You’ll find the shower room on the ground floor, and the gallery double bedroom is up a set of stairs on the first floor – it looks over the living space via its wooden balustrade. When the weather is warm, head outside to soak up the sunshine on the private terrace. There is also a shared 4-acre paddock and a games room with a snooker table to enjoy. And the owner can arrange guided walks and Tai Chi lessons.

Only 2 miles away lies the fishing village of Staithes, a picture-postcard destination immortalised since Victorian times by artists. Wander its cobbled streets, dipping in and out of shops, pubs and restaurants, and keep your eyes peeled for Dog Loup Alley, said to be the narrowest in the world at just 18 inches wide. Staithes is also a magnet for fossil hunters, as it’s situated on the Jurassic Coast. See what you can unearth on the shoreline or set out on a scenic hike along the long-distance Cleveland Way.

We booked this property for the field so we could exercise the dog. We were aware the field was over the road but not that it wasnt secure. Also only a path around the edge was usable as the centre had been cut by tractor and cuttings left, the dog got caught in piles of long wet, mown grass. The cottage was advertised as cosy, we didnt realise Read morehow cosy but it given the space it was very well equipped. Hide

Beautiful and peaceful place. Not far from the sea and sand. A warm welcoming (big) family home, one we had the privilege to share for a short time.

Unfortunately we could only stay two nights & wish we had been able to stop longer. The location is very quiet & peaceful and the cottage was extremely comfortable & finished to a high standard, with everything you need.

The cottage was comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything one would need, including a much needed torch, and it was good to have such a large dog walking area. Be aware that the stairs to the bedroom are steep and the bathroom is downstairs. Also it is not an easy walk to Staithes.

Acorn Cottage was lovely, the owners were amazing. It was clean and tidy and comfortable and in a great location. The reason I would not recommend your site is purely down to the fact that I used your filters to have an enclosed garden. When I arrived there was no garden at all. As I was travelling with a pup this was very disappointing as the Read moremain reason I booked this was because I needed a safe space for the pup. We were situated opposite a working farm so I was constantly worrying in case pup ran out and indeed shot by the farmer as is his right to do so. I re-read the advert of this property on your site and it also mentions plans to have a patio area with furniture at Acorn Cottage, which it did not. The property faces directly onto the driveway so there would be no space at all for any such patio area. Overall, I have no complaints with the property expect if I had known it did not have an enclosed garden I would never have booked it. The owners were fantastic and I would recommend the property to anyone, but not through your website unfortunately. Hide
