A cosy three-storey property in an enviable location only 500 metres from the ruins of Whitby abbey. Featuring a cosy lounge, a bright and airy kitchen/diner and a large enclosed garden, this dog-friendly cottage is perfect for small groups seeking a relaxing holiday on the North Yorkshire Coast.

This charming cottage sits in an elevated position, just off the cobbles of Church Street in Whitby’s old town. Large rooms with contemporary soft furnishings draped in natural light are found throughout, creating a homely ambience guests look forward to returning to after a long day exploring the area. The ground floor comprises a kitchen/diner, perfect for foodies who love experimenting with local produce, and a family bathroom. The comfortable lounge on the first floor is always a popular gathering point, with the king-size bedroom offering ample storage space off to the side. The second floor is dominated by a double bedroom with ample storage space. Accessed via the lounge, the large enclosed garden, almost unheard of in Whitby, is the perfect size for dog-friendly children’s games and alfresco meals. This cottage is an absolute gem for anyone with dogs - central yet with an enclosed garden this is a real rarity in Whitby.

Whitby is home to a range of cultural, historical and maritime attractions spanning hundreds of years all within a short distance of each other. The famous abbey ruins stand 500 metres away, and the view from there across the River Esk towards the quayside, harbour and vast beach is a sight to behold. Sandsend (3 miles) is best reached by a bracing walk along the beach, a wander around Robin Hood’s Bay (7 miles) is a must, while the natural landscapes of the North York Moors National Park (2.5 miles) are captivating beyond words.

Had a great stay. Great location providing easy access to shops, restaurants, the Abbey etc. Comfortable and well kitted out with everything you need to self cater. Welcome pack was a bonus with dog treats, dog beds and bowls too. Having such a large garden in this location is rare and a real bonus. Thank you for a great stay

This is an excellent cottage for dog owners. Its in the centre of the historic part of Whitby yet is a quiet oasis away from the hustle and bustle. There is a large garden which our dog loved. Theres even a hose to wash the dog after a trip to the nearby beach. Like most of central Whitby, there is no parking so be prepared to park about a 10 minRead moreute walk away. That said we didnt use the car much. There are a lot of steps up to the cottage and its on 3 levels inside so probably not suitable for those with mobility issues or lots of luggage! The furnishings were homely and comfortable but not so posh that we would have been worried about having our dog in the property. There was a well equipped kitchen with everything we needed. We had a lovely week exploring all Whitby and the surrounding area had to offer. Hide

The Secret Guardeb is a wonderful cottage. It is right in the middle of the old town, but it is really quiet and peaceful. The garden is perfect for dogs and secure for 2 Brittany's who loved it and want us to comeback.

Wonderful place to stay- it really is an absolute treasure in the centre of Whitby. In response to some comments about access via several stone steps we stayed with my son who has cerebral palsy and mobility difficulties, his comment was, 'it was worth taking my time to get up the steps to stay here'.

The Secret Garden is a beautiful, very clean and well-maintained cottage with a lovely garden space - most unexpected on that side of Whitby! The welcome pack was lovely, and Ill definitely bring my dog next time as its clear the owners are big dog lovers and had thought of everything. The main bedroom in particular is beautiful and I loved the velRead moreux windows. The kitchen and bathroom have everything you need, but perhaps dont choose this cottage if you dont like stairs, as its a long way to go up and down to the loo at night! Other than that, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it and look forward go visiting again. Hide

This cottage was delightfully charming and characterful. It had everything you could possibly need, so much thought has gone into the guests comfort including the four legged guests! The dogs loved roaming around the secure garden although my very small dog did manage to fit through railings at one point above the street below so dont leave any smaRead morell dogs unattended! The situation of the cottage was also fantastic, right in the midst of the old town with cobbled streets and lovely little shops and a small outdoor market. Minutes walk from the harbour and the 199 steps to the abbey. Definitely recommend! Hide
