Head down to the harbour (1 mile) to sample some delicious, fresh seafood, or perhaps hop on a boat to go wildlife watching (dolphins and whales are often spotted off the coast). Here, you’ll also discover the fascinating Captain Cook Memorial Museum. Whitby’s old town is a short 0.5-mile walk away, with its cobbled streets and a plethora of independent shops and eateries. From here, climb to the headland, where you can admire Whitby Abbey and join the coastal path to explore the nearby villages, including the smugglers’ haunt of Robin Hood’s Bay (6 miles).
