Nestled in the picture-postcard North Yorkshire village of Grosmont above the verdant Esk Valley, this traditional stone cottage is a wonderful place to stay for a couple or family. When you’re not making the most of the abundant walking and cycling trails which surround this two-bedroom home, you can be reading a book by the wood burner in a rocking chair or sitting outside in the sunshine in the glorious garden.

Climb the steps to the front door and head straight for the cosy lounge. Light the wood burner, sink into the comfy sofa, and choose a film to watch on the TV. Adjacent to this homely space is the farmhouse kitchen which has everything you could need to self-cater during your stay and features a solid wood dining table. When night falls, ascend the stairs to the first floor where you’ll find the family bathroom and two restful bedrooms, a double and a twin – each with characterful sloping ceilings and beautiful views over the garden. Children are sure to love playing in the garden and there’s a lovely, shaded area where you can dine alfresco.

One of the biggest draws of the village of Grosmont is the historic train station and its fleet of steam trains (0.5 miles). Experience one of the heritage trains for yourself with a nostalgic journey along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. During the summer months, you can also catch one of the steam trains on the Esk Valley line that runs from Grosmont to the coastal town of Whitby (7 miles). There, you can climb the 199 iconic steps to Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, or take a wander along the town’s golden, sandy beach.

A lovely, comfortable cottage in a beautiful location. Everything was as outlined on your website and the instructions and information folders in the cottage were very detailed. A very enjoyable break.

All would have been 5 but our bed and settee was very uncomfortable and made sleeping difficult. Other than that the whole holiday and cottage was wonderful

We were thrilled that the cottage was warm and decorated for Christmas. It was so thoughtful to have teabag's and milk, so welcoming (and logs). We appreciated all those things. We loved our walk on Runswick Bay and our visit to Castle Howard which is spectacular. The views even from the cottage are amazing. We had a wonderful week. Thank you.

This is a great location for people with many interests - walking, steam trains, shopping in lovely small market towns, seaside scenery etc. Never short of things to do and eating out is a joy. Our second stay here and it's a very reasonable price in comparison to many others in this area. Thank you owners for providing lovely accommodation.

The property looked great in the photos but appeared smaller in reality. It was, however, very warm and comfortable. In terms of facilities we would normally book somewhere with a washing machine and dishwasher so that was a bit of a miss. The description referred to on road parking but parking on the road right outside the house wasnt possible at Read morethat location. It would have been helpful to have had a bit more information about where guests are best to park. We didnt want to take the regular spot of a full time resident and ended up parking on the sloped verge nearby. Also, the garden isnt immediately outside the house and is not the one visible from the property. This didnt affect us as we wouldnt have let our children play unsupervised or tied our dog up but it would have been useful to know in advance. The location was ideal. That was the main selling point for us. Hide

Everything was very good but a downstairs toilet would make the property excellent for us. Maybe a toilet with a macerater could be installed either under the stairs or in part of the kitchen. The TV stations are poor and we noted the difficulty with the mast.

Another lovely stay in this cosy cottage. Lovely and warm on days we stayed in. Visited Falling Foss and had a short stroll in the woods and a lovely scone and coffee at the tea rooms. Great crab sandwiches at The Hart Inn, Sandsend. Another lovely relaxing week to recharge the batteries.

A lovely week spent in a very comfortable, well equipped cottage. Walked along the rail trail and visited the waterfalls in Goathland along with visits to Thornton-le-dale and Whitby. We had a great holiday and the property was lovely. It would have been useful to have known that the garden was shared and not directly outside the property. A washing machine would be a useful addition to the property as well as a kitchen cleaning spray.
