This attractive cottage in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, surrounded by countryside, is perfect for couples, families or friends looking for a peaceful holiday in a rural retreat. Lealholm is a small village near Glaisdale and Danby on the River Esk crossing point and a great base for exploring the moors, with the coast less than 10 miles away. Whether you enjoy walking or cycling, there is plenty of natural beauty to explore on your doorstep.

This gorgeous cottage is spacious and full of original character features, including exposed wooden ceiling beams in all the downstairs rooms. The decor is colourful and playful, reflecting that this used to be a former cow byre. Downstairs, the hallway leads to a contemporary kitchen/dining area with all you need to enjoy dining together and lingering over memorable meals. A door from this area leads out to the garden. The lounge is a wonderful social space with comfortable leather seating to unwind after a day of exploration. A TV and electric fire create a cosy ambience for whiling away the evenings together. Upstairs is a bathroom and two double bedrooms - one with a TV and an en-suite walk-in shower. The large, enclosed garden with outside seating is ideal for eating together or planning the day while sipping your morning brew.

The beautiful Yorkshire coastline is less than 10 miles away. Saltburn-by-the-Sea (16 miles) and Whitby (10 miles) are two must-see towns and access points for walkers to join the Cleveland Way. Discover Saltburn and spend a traditional day on the beach, ride the cliff tramway, and enjoy fish and chips on the pier. For a lovely walk in the countryside, head to the Mallyan Spout Waterfall (9 miles) and enjoy the three-mile circular walk from the village. This part of Goathland has been a popular holiday destination since Victorian times.

Had a wonderful week at The Old Cow Byre. Snow, ice and the cold weather could not possibly detract from what was a fabulous week. I love the area anyway but this place is something else. I would very happily sell up and live there. Elaine and Gordon have created a real home from home and should be very proud of what they have achieved. Read more The location is brilliant. Not far from anywhere but far enough to feel like you have got away from it all. Surrounded by the glorious Yorkshire countryside, plenty of wildlife to keep you company and an immaculate country cottage to call home for a week or two. The coast is close by, as are many picturesque villages and Hamlets on the moors. I shall take great pleasure in recommending The Old Cow Byre and also returning myself. I have stayed in many places over the years and this is in the top 1%. 5 stars. Hide
