Wake up to panoramic views across the glorious North Yorkshire countryside from the windows of a spacious period cottage exuding character and charm. This lovely, detached property sleeps eight guests across four bedrooms and is set in the secluded grounds of Riseborough Hall. With a large, enclosed garden where a gaggle of geese may greet you from across the boundary wall, it is perfect for families or friends sharing. There’s a wealth of walking and cycling trails to explore in this beautiful landscape, while the vibrant market town of Pickering is just 4 miles away.

This striking holiday home has original features galore beneath its traditional, red-tiled roof, with original beams, wooden latch doors and delightful items of vintage furniture. The roomy farmhouse kitchen has all you need to prepare feasts for all to share, and the adjacent snug has French doors opening to the garden. Curl up on comfortable seating in the lounge and light the wood burner inside an impressive chimney breast. Upstairs, there is a family bathroom and four inviting bedrooms: three king-size and one double, two with en-suites. Outside, picnic by a large pond at the end of the garden, with outdoor furniture and a BBQ on the patio.

Shop for fresh local produce at Pickering’s historic Monday market and explore the town’s 13th-century castle ruins, offering dramatic views across the countryside. Step into the town’s past and rural life at the fascinating Beck Isle Museum and be sure to see the splendid medieval wall paintings in St Peter and St Paul’s church. Climb aboard the North Yorks Moors railway for a wonderfully scenic, 24.5-mile journey to picturesque seaside Whitby, with more family fun for thrill seekers to enjoy at Flamingo Land theme park (4.5 miles).
