Resting amid the Howardian Hills AONB is this gorgeous two-bedroom stone retreat ideally placed between the market towns of Easingwold and Helmsley, and boasting a host of things to see and do in the surrounding area. There is walking and cycling from the door and with the owner being a resident expert on Yorkshire walks having featured on BBC2’s ‘Take a Hike’ programme, lovers of the outdoors can embark on some beautiful trails in the Howardian Hills or the North York Moors National Park. For a slower pace of life, visit historic sites such as Castle Howard (11 miles), Rievaulx Abbey (13 miles), Byland Abbey (8 miles) or spend the day in the city of York (13.5 miles) and meander through the cobbled 'Shambles' where you'll discover an abundance of unique shops, tea rooms, eateries and the magnificence of York Minster. Foodies will also delight at the choice of fine dining restaurants, country pubs and great cafes within a few miles of the cottage.

On arriving at this single-level, tastefully furnished cottage, step into the pretty, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Its high, pitched ceilings and contemporary furnishings make this the perfect spot to relax whilst large windows flood the area with natural light. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat or a fun-filled getaway with loved ones, this space has everything you need for a relaxing stay in beautiful Yorkshire. The impressive kitchen is a delight for keen cooks, equipped with all the essentials to whip up a delicious supper or hearty breakfast, while the adjacent dining area offers a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with family and friends. French doors lead out to a patio where you can sit and watch the local wildlife whilst enjoying your morning coffee. The cosy sitting area features a wood burner and comfortable sofas, providing the perfect setting for a quiet night in watching a movie on the Smart TV or reminiscing about the day's adventures. At the end of the night, make your way to one of the two stunning bedrooms, both thoughtfully styled with beautiful bedding and soft furnishings. The main bedroom has a wonderful super-king-size bed, a Smart TV and an en-suite shower room, whilst the second bedroom is a gorgeous twin room decorated in calming tones and with a Smart TV – ideal both for adults and children. Both bedrooms have plenty of storage space and French doors leading out to the south-facing patio. Completing the property is the large wet room so you can start the day fresh.

The outside of the property is just as lovely. On warm spring and summer evenings, sit out on the large south-facing patio and dine alfresco with your group – and just across from the retreat is a private paddock where you can exercise your dogs.

A very comfortable, well equipped cottage. Perfect for the two of us and our little dog. Warm and cosy and despite the awful weather ( national!) we had an excellent time. Well located and within easy reach of all the varied attractions of this area.

Barn Owl Cottage is a well presented property. Very well equipped, clean and some very good welcoming touches . It has been well thought out as to what makes the Cottage stand out above others that weve stayed in As dog owners the paddock opposite the property was very useful.
