Wander around the Salterhebble Top Lock scenic point and along the River Calder (2 miles). Head into Halifax (4 miles) to enjoy a meal out at a dog-friendly pub and soak up the countryside views from Penistone Hill Country Park (12 miles). Near here are the historical Long Bridge and Lower Laithe Reservoir (13 miles). Literary enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the circular trail around Bronte Waterfalls and Top Withens (14.5 miles) which is said to have inspired Emily Bronte. In the northern tip of the Peak District National Park, you can follow hiking trails around Black Hill or Butterley Reservoir (all within 14.5 miles).
