Explore the Eden Valley and The Lakes from this spacious property, which features a cosy log burner and storage for bikes and sports equipment to make the most of the surrounding countryside.

Situated in the pretty Eden Valley, located between the Lakes and North Pennines with fabulous walks and cycle routes on your doorstep. The historic market town of Appleby is less than 2 miles away, with local amenities including artisan bakers, butchers and even a Harry Potter themed shop where quidditch is sometimes played. Visit the Norman Castle and the train station is part of the Settle to Carlisle line. Enjoy a swim in the open-air pools at Shap or Askham, (under 11 miles away and seasonal) or a hack at one of the equestrian centres. Take in some of the local countryside on horseback, or if you enjoy a spot of golf there are courses in Appleby and Penrith (13 miles). Enjoy a day at Lowther Castle, paddleboard on Ullswater or take a trip on a steamer and visit Aira Force waterfall (all within 16 miles).

As you enter the beautifully converted barn, you will find a useful boot room with coat and shoe storage, perfect for kicking off your shoes after exploring the area. Heading into the spacious lounge with an open staircase with a cosy wood-burner (first basket of logs provided), Freeview TV/DVD player and CD player, a space where you can look forward to relaxing and watching a film with your loved ones. There are some lovely pieces of art on display, many by the property owner and other local artists. The pretty country kitchen is off the lounge, down a couple of steps, you will find a Belfast sink, gas range with electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is a dining area within the kitchen for you to sit down and make plans for your break. There is a lovely sunroom with patio doors leading to the garden next to the kitchen and just off the kitchen, there is a useful utility room which is shared with the owners where there is a washing machine and tumble dryer. Off the lounge, there is a double bedroom on the ground floor, the bedroom is spacious with oak flooring and it has an en-suite with a shower and WC. Head up the stairs from the lounge to the first floor there is a second pretty double bedroom which has a low ceiling in places and an en-suite bathroom with a free-standing bath and WC.

Heading outside, you will find a private rear garden, with patio and garden furniture which offers the perfect spot to sit out with a coffee first thing or stargaze on a clear night. There is one electric car charging port and parking for two cars.

Jean and Andrew are a lovely couple and very welcoming hosts. We drove from London on the busy Easter weekend and we were very late when we arrived at the cottage. Andrew kept the cottage warm by putting the log fire up and also keeping a kettle of boiled water for us to have a warm drink. That was very touching. They also kept a bottle of milk, a Read morebottle of wine and some cookies made by Jean. Those cookies were very tasty. Rooms were nice and clean and we had all the facilities we need. Hide

We visited the barn with my parents over New Year and had a lovely time. The barn is a great size and very comfortable, I was worried we may be cold, but we were anything but! Jean and Andrew we perfect hosts - very welcoming and accommodating. The barn is only 4 mins from Appleby which has a nice little high street with some great pubs. The Crown Read moreand Cushion was especially nice, with excellent food choices. Theres a lovely walk along the river too and lots of other walks close by. Hide

Excellent location for exploring the lesser known parts of the Eden Valley, Westmorland Dales & adjacent Pennines (close to High Cup Nick & Cross Fell) but the eastern Lake District is very close as well. Numerous nearby castles & historic houses. Proximity to Appleby & Settle-Carlisle Rlwy is a boon. Plenty of footpaths to local villages. Brilliant well kept and so so clean cottage. Great walks from the doorstep. Welcoming hosts. Lovely quiet location. Activities for children such as Ghyll Scrambling, GO APE, canyoning, paddle boarding and kayaks all accessible by car within 1 hour and 20 mins.

The barn was very comfortable, airy and spacious. A rural yet scenic location with easy access to A roads. The kitchen was well stocked with adequate utensils. Bedding and towels were included, as were towels for our dog. Logs for the wood burner were available if needed. Selection of groceries were left for us (milk, juice, tea, coffee, wine) as wRead moreell as a delicious box of homemade shortbread and chocolate brownies. We had a fantastic stay at Keld House Barn. The cottage was cosy and well equipped. We enjoyed some lovely walks from the cottage with our children and dog. Appleby is around 5 mins away in the car or a 20minute walk. There are shops for groceries, places to eat and takeaways. We received a warm welcome at the Crown and Cushion when we stopped for Read morea pint. Keld House Barn is in a lovely quiet location, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Accommodation was very spacious and well equipped. The weather was kind to us and we made good use of the patio area lovely sunsets to see from here. There is a lane which is ideal for walking the dog. Wonderful cottage and a fantastic base to explore the lakes and dales. Greatly exceeded our expectations. Nice touches with cut flowers and home baked cakes on arrival. Day trip idea sheets were a massive help. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

The cottage is set in a rural location, nice and peaceful, and has everything you need for your stay. The beds were comfortable. The only thing I would say is that the towels are quite thin but everything else was fine. The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful. We had a great stay in the barn which was absolutely beautiful.
