Head to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline for a romantic retreat, cosy and contemporary interior for a relaxing getaway for two.

Escape to the North Yorkshire countryside in this remote retreat for two just outside Castleton. The property sits in the heart of the Esk Valley, and you’ll have endless walking trails to explore from your front door. You’ll also be within 20 miles of the coast, where you’ll find seaside resorts such as Whitby and Staithes. In the evenings, pour a glass of wine and admire your tranquil surroundings from your private terrace.

The Grade II-listed bolthole has a rustic, country-cottage style, with neutral decor and beautiful natural materials. The main living area is a bright, open-plan space enjoying far-reaching rural views. Unwind here after a long countryside walk, preparing meals using local ingredients and sharing dinners at the cute table or outside on the terrace. After dinner, snuggle up on the sofa to watch a film on the Smart TV. When it’s time for bed, climb the ladder to the fabulous, hand-crafted oak bed. A stylish wet room, with cosy underfloor heating, rounds off this rural retreat. Outside, bask in the sunshine and admire the local wildlife from your private terrace, as you dine alfresco or sip a morning coffee.

The charming village of Castleton is just 1 mile away and boasts a friendly pub, along with a tearoom and a handful of local shops. The North York Moors visitor centre is also here, and is the starting point for several popular walking routes. Enjoy a day trip to Whitby (17 miles), where you can explore the historic harbour and the atmospheric ruins of Whitby Abbey, as well as stroll along the sandy beaches or stride out along the dramatic clifftop paths. Alternatively, spend a relaxing afternoon pottering around the ancient market town of Pickering (21 miles), with its historic buildings and olde-worlde charm.

The location was beautiful. As I ate my breakfast outside I had sensational views up to Blakey and along the Rosedale Valley. Such a suntrap, all day. There was plenty of space to lounge around on the grass after returning from a large selection of local walks to viewpoints and surrounding villages and hamlets. Pretty lights twinkled around the garRead moreden, as dusk dew in. The hosts were every courteous and friendly. The Bothy accommodated my needs - good cooking facilities. Great mezz bed. Hide
