  • Well-placed to explore the varied landscapes of two National Parks and two AONBs
  • In an idyllic village location with the bustling town of Kirkby Lonsdale only 3 miles away
Property code: SZ527

Fill your days with walks, countryside sightseeing, bike rides and tours of towns and villages while staying in this romantic retreat. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park with the Lake District (13.5 miles), the Cumbrian coast (16 miles) and the North Pennines National Landscape (25 miles) just a short drive away, every day will be varied ob your outdoor adventure break. Sleeping two guests, this converted 17th-century cottage sits on the edge of the owner’s Georgian house but is self-contained with privacy assured. It's entirely dog friendly and possesses a courtyard garden, simply wonderful for soaking up that fresh northern air during a stay at any time of year.

Pass through the gravelled courtyard and up stone steps to reach the property. The house is centred around an open-plan living area with a spacious kitchen/diner and a lounge next door, accessible just two steps down. This dynamic space invites unbridled relaxation at each day’s end, equipped with a TV by comfortable seating in the lounge to curl up and watch a film or a favourite box set. The bedroom is a king-size offering just next door, and the bathroom is also down here, equipped with a shower over bath to allow you to soak away the day whichever way you prefer.

Whilst you’re welcome to off-road it, there are several well-established, waymarked pathways nearby for trekking the local area efficiently. One of these is The Dales Way, crossing your path by the River Dee, 6 miles away. This 80-mile route stretches across Cumbria and Yorkshire, encompassing the beauty spots of Gearstones (16 miles) to the south and Sedburgh (7.5 miles) to the north. Another local beauty spot is the Ribblehead Viaduct (15 miles), a feat of engineering worth factoring into your walking or biking route, not too far from the vibrant town of Ingleton (9 miles).

  • 1 king-size bedroom (sofa bed also available in lounge to be requested at time of booking)
  • 1 bathroom with shower over the bath and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machine and dishwasher
  • Smart TV
  • Wi-Fi included
  • Enclosed courtyard garden with seating
  • Private parking for 2 cars
  • Bike storage available
  • Pub 0.5 miles away and shop 3 miles away
  • Though the accommodation is laid out on the ground floor, The Wash House is accessed via 5 stone steps and there are 2 internal steps between the kitchen and living room
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 3 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

Very quiet spot, with easy access to Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh, really lovely parts of the Dales and Cumbria. Enjoyed being here in November as cosy, with a very comfortable bed. If travelling with a dog in summer months would personally prefer a cottage with an enclosed garden

A cosy comfortable cottage with all required for a relaxing holiday.. The local Barbon Inn welcomed my dog and myself and was a pleasant short walk from the cottage. The village shop cum cafe was closed which seems to be permanent. Kirkby Lonsdale, a four mile drive, is a charming, dog friendly town with a park by the river for dog runs.

Very well equipped and comfortable cottage. One of the best beds I have slept in. Powerful shower. The kitchen is well appointed and the hob and oven are excellent. The fridge and freezer is a real bonus, as we have to self cater. Great WiFi and TV (take your passwords for Netflix etc) and controllable heating. We had a great 4 night break at the cottage, arranged at short notice. The cottage was exactly as described with all the facilities we were expecting. The area in front of the cottage was secure which was important for our two dogs. Overall, we were very happy with our stay.
