Richmond is an historic market hill town. The town and imposing Norman castle are within easy walking distance, it is also possible to park free, for two hours, in the town centre using a parking disc. The front of the cottage looks directly across to the south curtain wall of the castle. In addition to the castle, which has a great view from the top of the Keep or Great Tower, Richmond has a unique Georgian Theatre Royal, as well as twisting, cobbled lanes, small local museums and a fascinating mix of architecture. The central market place hosts a small Saturday market where you can find local produce, including fresh fish from Whitby, fruits, vegetables and delicious cheese. There are several independent shops selling local produce, plus tea rooms and cafes. The nearby converted railway station, opposite the local swimming pool, is home to a number of amenities, including a small, multi-screen cinema, café, delicious artisan bakery and deli, micro-brewery, local ice-cream parlour and gift shop. The Station can be easily reached from the town or by footpath from the cottage. The Victorian indoor market hall, close to the castle and Town Hall, is home to the local Tourist Information desk. The landscape of North Yorkshire is steeped in history, with historic houses and ruined abbeys, whilst its natural features change throughout the seasons; from rare wild flower meadows in the spring to glorious purple heather moors in August and snow capped hills in winter. The region is noted for its fresh local produce, good food and local character. To help you get the most out of your visit, the cottage contains information on various local activities and places of interest.

Evergreen Cottage enjoys an elevated position and view of the castle. On the ground floor, the sitting room has a woodburning stove for winter evenings, comfortable sofas, a small number of books and traditional games, plus smart TV and radio. The spacious kitchen/dining room is well equipped and the dining table seats four people. There are views from the windows towards the castle at the front and onto the garden at the rear. On the first floor, the main bedroom has a super king bed, exposed beams and windows on two sides. The pretty second bedroom has a king size bed. Both rooms have blackout lined curtains, radios and smart TVs. A hairdryer, ample wardrobe space, iron and ironing board and clothes rack are available. The small family shower room and WC is upstairs, at the end of the landing. It includes a dual headed shower with a good supply of hot water and complimentary toiletries. All the rooms, except the shower room, have a view over to the castle and the main rooms also have a view of the garden.

To the rear of the cottage is a small cottage garden which includes a garden table and chairs, a BBQ for the summer and a happy community of garden birds. You may hear Tawny owls around the cottage in the evenings, especially in spring. At the front of the property there is also a bench from which you can enjoy a view of the castle. Access for drop off and loading is available at the front of the cottage, with free, off street parking within easy walking distance.

We had a lovely stay at Evergreen Cottage - excellent location, 10 mins walk to the centre of Richmond and lots of walks from the doorstep. We hope to stay here again in the future so we can explore more of the local area. Hide

Evergreen cottage is a delightful home from home. It is exceptionally well equipped, furnished, clean and very comfortable. Helen and Frank have put together a comprehensive visitors information book for the house, Richmond and further afield. We had a fantastic week there.

Excellent location and beautifully presented. One of the best we have stayed at. Easily accessible walks from the cottage and good eateries in the town. We only used the car twice during our week stay due to good public transport. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Evergreen Cottage is a fabulous place to stay. A short walk up the steep hill to Richmond, and a great location to access fantastic walks.
