There's lots of fun and entertainment going on in Yorkshire this February half term, so why not book one of our fabulous family friendly holiday cottages and make the most of that all-important time together in the school holidays. Here's our pick of what you can get up to in beautiful Yorkshire this half term:
Dark Skies Festival, North York Moors & Yorkshire Dales - 14th February to 1st March
Enjoy star-studded talks, telescope sessions, planetarium shows and a variety of crafty activities at the National Parks Dark Skies Festivals this February half-term. With the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Park Authorities celebrating the jewels of the night sky. This year activity is themed around exploration. With over 100 events, join in the nebula adventure to explore the cosmos for the fifth Dark Skies Festival.
Be A Ranger For A Day, Kettlewell - 15th February
Join the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for the Year of Green action and lend their rangers a hand. Experience for yourself the work they do to look after the National Park countryside in this hands-on practical conservation day. Expect to get dirty!
Jorvik Viking Festival, York - 15th to 23 February
Recognised as the largest event of its kind in Europe, the annual JORVIK Viking Festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s Viking heritage.
With an exciting programme of events inspired by this Norse monarch on offer including living history encampments, markets, workshops, talks and of course dramatic combat performances there is something for everyone at JORVIK Viking Festival.
Coastival, Scarborough - 21st - 23rd February
The Coastival event takes place in Scarborough each February and always has an action packed line-up, including live street performances from both musicians and dancers alike as well as other varied events and workshops taking place at venues across the town. From choir performances at the Scarborough Art Gallery to Salsa Dancing on the Spa Promenade there is something fun for the whole family to enjoy.
Highlights this year include the chance to learn Brazilian and flamenco dancing, carnival drumming, cardboard engineering, music, crafts and storytelling. And all activities are free!
Sundown Trees, Dalby Forest, North York Moors - 14th, 15th, 22nd & 29th February
For a once in a lifetime experience, take to the skies as the sun goes down on Go Ape at Dalby Forest. Navigate the treetop adventure and exhilarating zip wires amongst the stunning backdrops of the forest and woodland with your head torch to guide you. This will definitely get any thrill seekers pulse racing.
Vikings Swords & Stories at Whitby Abbey, Whitby - 15th to 23rd February
Children can learn about the Nordic way of living and hear stories from times past. Plus the resident Viking will teach some fierce sword fighting skills.
Dalby Adventure Club, Dalby Forest, North York Moors - 18th to 20th February
This bushcraft adventure is a great way to keep older children entertained with den building, orienteering, environmental art, river dipping and mini-beasts, wildlife watching, food foraging, or camp fire cooking. For younger children there's also the Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon Glow Trail.
Cayton Bay Fossil Hunting Trip, Yorkshire Coast - 21st February
Grab your wellies and bucket and head to Cayton Bay, just south of Scarborough for this fossil hunting trip for all the family and see what exciting treasure you'll find!
Fab Feb Family Fun at Lightwater Valley, Ripon - 15th-22nd February
Enjoy a fun-packed day out featuring a host of fantastic indoor and outdoor activities including fairground rides, a sightseeing tractor ride around Eagle's Creek Farm, daily entertainment in the Show Barn with magic and illusions and a puppet show, a petting farm, Jurassic Adventure Golf and soft play.
Whatever the Weather at RHS Harlow Carr, Harrogate - 15th to 23rd February
There's a great range of all-weather activities going on at RHS Garden Harlow Carr including a chance to make sun catchers and windsocks and discover more about the wild weather of the UK on a daily garden trail.
