Here at Ingrid Flute's Yorkshire Holiday Cottages we love a day out and about exploring and learning about our beautiful county of Yorkshire, and of course having fun along the way. We've suggested our best days out in Yorkshire to inspire you for your next trip...

Byland Abbey and The Black Swan at Oldstead

Byland Abbey followed by a Michelin Starred meal

Laura our Quality Assessor recommends a trip to Byland Abbey, set within the North York Moors National Park. Once one of the greatest monasteries in England it is a great place to stop on a day out with the family and Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle are both nearby too. You could take a picnic with you to enjoy in the grounds or alternatively if you fancy spoiling yourselves, take a short drive over to the The Black Swan at Oldstead for some Michelin-starred food.

Eden Camp

Visit Eden Camp

Kirsty our Marketing Manager suggests stepping back in time to The Blitz at Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum, set in the grounds and buildings of an original Prisoner of War camp just outside Malton. There's nearly 30 different buildings to discover here, each one once housing Prisoners of War while the camp was active in the 1940s and now themed to tell their stories and those of life on the Home Front during WWII. The immersive displays here cover both social and military history, creating an archive that has grown into a resource of national historical importance.

Whitby's 199 Steps leading to Whitby Abbey

Climb the 199 Steps and explore Whitby Abbey

Cath our Property Recruitment Assistant suggests that for a different day out, why not climb the famous 199 steps to reach the ruins of Whitby Abbey? It's said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in the beautiful views over this popular seaside town.

Flamborough Head

Explore Flamborough Head

Aggie our Property Recruiter says her favourite place for a day out on the Yorkshire Coast is the stunning chalk headland of Flamborough Head between Filey and Bridlington, with its beautiful sea views and sheer white cliffs. With a scenic nature reserve and two ancient lighthouses it’s a great place for bird watching and hiking, followed by some fantastic fish & chips.

City Cruises York Boat trip

Take a York Boat Trip

Louise our Marketing & Photography Assistant says the best way to see the beautiful historic city of York is a trip along the River Ouse on a City Cruises York Boat. Whether it’s an informative sightseeing cruise, a relaxing sunset dinner cruise or even a self-drive boat, you’re sure to get the best views of York on your travels along the water.

The Forbidden Corner

Discover The Forbidden Corner

Donna our Holiday Home Management Yorkshire Manager says The Forbidden Corner in Middleham is a great day out for all the family. It’s a strange place full of hidden areas, tunnels and surprises around every corner, set in a stunning part of The Yorkshire Dales National Park. You must book ahead of your visit.
