October Half-Term may be just around the corner but luckily we have plenty lined up in Yorkshire to keep the kids entertained! With these year's half-term falling a little later than usual, there's a fantastic mix of Halloween themed events throughout the county, as well as the bi-annual Whitby Goth Weekend on the coast- where ever you go, you're sure at have an action-packed time in Yorkshire!
The coast is always sure to be a hit with the kids, a quick paddle in the cold North Sea can be rewarded by some delicious ice-cream or some warming fresh fish and chips. Scarborough's South Bay is the place to be here, spend your morning playing on the 2p slots or the arcade games, ride the ferris wheel or have fun on the dodgems before indulging in some dinky donuts!
If you've got time, a walk along the Marine Drive will offer some fantastic sea views and take you along the coast to Scarborough's second beach: the North Bay. Here you'll find the Sea Life Centre, home to Penguin Island, plenty of seals and (if you're lucky!) you can even spot a few octopuses! Over October Half-Term you can take part in the Ascarium event, meeting Zara the witch and discovering the spooky creatures under her command.
North York Moors
There's also some spooky goings-on at Castle Howard this Half-Term. Visit between 27th October-4th November to see the house and grounds taken over by spooky pirates and zombies looking for new recuits to join them. Take part in a day of trails, puzzle solving and crafts to learn how to be a pirate or a zombie before joining them in their epic battle.
If a spot of fresh air is in order, the trails and paths of the Dalby Forest offer a variety of routes for cyclers and walkers of all abilities. Bring your own bikes or save space in the car and rent them there (more room for picnics!)
York is a fantastic place for kids, offering a great mix of history, fun attractions and shopping for the grown-ups! York's Chocolate Story unwraps the city's chocolate history, York was once home to Rowntree's Chocolates and Nestle, and sometimes you can even smell the cocoa from the factories as you walk the streets here. Take the interactive tour before sampling a little bit of York chocolate for yourself (there's also a cafe here, we recommend the hot chocolates!). Before chocolate was the Vikings!
In the centre of York (once known as Jorvik) you'll find Jorvik Viking Centre, one of the city's must see attractions. Transport back in time to AD960 to discover Viking life on Jorvik's ride and through their interactive galleries.
Book your Half-Term getaway today to explore Yorkshire's coast, moors and dales for yourself, you'll make memories to last a lifetime!
