We will soon be into a new year and the chance to think ahead, beyond the winter chill and hectic Christmas/New Year period, to holidays and relaxation in Yorkshire.

On the BBC, the county has been dubbed, “the Hollywood of England” with over 20 films being shot there next year, doubling as Venice, Italy and many other places. Such is the spectacular scenery here, it’s every director’s dream. Some of the most famous films ever filmed here are 'Kes' and, 'Mansfield Park' as well as scenes for 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' where Goathland acted as the setting for Hogsmeade Station. Gwyneth Paltrow also appeared in the film 'Possession' which included scenes filmed on Whitby's infamous Church Street.

TV programmes too have been based in Yorkshire but aimed at a national audience. Emmerdale was probably the first big hit as alongside, 'Last of the Summer Wine'. 'Heartbeat', of course, was also a great favourite set as Aidensfield in the Esk Valley village of Goathland. The spin-off, 'The Royal' was a hospital drama, also set in the 60’s, based in Scarborough. 'Home Is where The Heart Is' was another that captured the imagination. Any others that you can think of?

You too can enjoy that dream by choosing one of our character properties from nearly 400 on offer by the coast, on the Moors or in the Yorkshire Dales. Put yourself in the picture and get booking!
