by Ian Dobson, Reservations Myself and a colleague have recently taken a trip around some of the villages in the Esk Valley between Whitby and Teesside. We started in Goathland, famous as Aidensfield in the, 'Heartbeat' series. Steam trains were running through from Pickering to Grosmont and some on to Whitby, the station shop and tearooms were both open and there was a general buzz in the village. The Leeds to Whitby 'Coastliner' passes through and there were a couple of coaches of visitors looking for their 'Heartbeat' memorabilia. Of course, the real deal is how the sheep wander wherever they wish in the village apart from the bus shelters which are gated to keep them out.
