Yorkshire has been named the UK's best holiday destination by the 19th World Travel Awards, voted for by travel agents around the world. Cornwall, Cumbria, Devon, Northumberland, the Peak District, Scotland and Wales, the other nominees, were all overshadowed by Yorkshire.
In the first 9 months of last year, there was a 12% increase in visits to the county by international visitors. The county hosts more than 216 million visits from home and abroad each year.
The tourist board is currently bidding to host the Tour de France in 2016.
