Set overlooking the beach, this fantastic holiday home enjoys a prime position in the heart of Whitby’s picturesque old town. The couples’ retreat or base for a small family is perfectly placed for exploring the shops, eateries, and cosy pubs dotted along the town’s cobbled streets, and you’ll also be close to the iconic 199 steps leading to Whitby Abbey.
The three-storey property has a home-away-from-home vibe. On the ground floor is a light and airy kitchen/diner, with a handy folding dining table for enjoying mealtimes together. A few steps lead down to a cosy lounge on the lower ground floor, with comfortable seating and relaxing sea views. When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to a pretty double bedroom, again with spectacular views across the water. This room leads to the second-floor twin bedroom, which is set in the eaves and has a sloping ceiling. A first-floor family bathroom completes the accommodation. To the rear, up some steps, is an enclosed courtyard with a picnic bench for al fresco dining. There’s also a small seating area to the front, where you can sip a glass of wine overlooking the beach.
Stroll out of your front door and onto Tate Hill Beach. This is one of Whitby’s more secluded beaches, and is ideal for picnics and quiet walks along the shoreline. Alternatively, just across the estuary, is Whitby’s main beach (1 mile). This 2-mile stretch of golden sand is backed by colourful beach huts and has a good range of seaside amenities. Behind the cottage, high on the headland, lies the evocative ruins of Whitby Abbey, said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. From here, you can join The Cleveland Way which takes you along the coast and offers stunning views and excellent wildlife-watching opportunities.
