A luxurious country cottage nestled on leafy manor grounds, a stone’s throw from the stretch of sandy coastline at Whitby. This exquisite country oasis is the perfect hideaway for families or friends marking their special occasion. Depart from Whitby Harbour (1 mile) and glide across the North Sea alongside a knowledgeable local skipper on a dolphin-spotting cruise, then settle in for a seafood feast gathered around the sleek glass dining table.

This elegant property boasts a beautifully eclectic interior with rich jewel-toned upholstery, abstract artwork, earthy wooden textures, and ornamental design details. Kick off sandy shoes in the hallway then pad along the wooden floor into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Pour a drink and potter in the wooden kitchen. Rope in the resident bartender to shake up some pre-dinner tipples on the glossy marble worktops. As evening falls, gather in the light-dappled dining space and throw open the patio doors to feast with the gentle summer breeze. Retire to the lounge with a sweet treat and sink onto the sofas for a family games night or movie marathon. In cooler months, bask in the crackling glow of the traditional wood burner. Indulge in an evening soak in the opulent roll-top tub then rest up in the two thoughtfully styled bedrooms. Choose from an adaptable twin/super-king on the ground floor or ascend the staircase to the inviting double with sweeping views over Whitby Abbey. Start the day with freshly brewed coffee perched in the garden.

Step inside the immersive Dracula Experience (700 metres) to discover Whitby’s ghostly past, then sample a selection of locally crafted beer tasters as you learn of the intricate production process at Whitby Brewery (1 mile). For more sedate pursuits, while away hazy afternoons on the sandy stretch of coastline at Whitby Beach (1 mile).

We spent a wonderful few days at the gatehouse. The accommodation was well appointed and spotlessly clean. There was also a well stocked welcome hamper on arrival! I would definitely recommend this property and will look at re-booking this should we return to Whitby in the future

Within easy walking distance to whitby. But on a very busy and noisy road junction. Has an outside patio area but was right on the road side. Inside is comfortable. Hamper was a nice touch.

Had a wonderful 3 night stay at The Gatehouse. The location is great for Whitby, we parked the car up on arrival and walked everywhere. It is quite close to a main road/traffic lights but there is minimal traffic noise once inside the property and does not disturb sleep. Would definitely recommend and also return to on a future visit. Thank you Hide

Stunning property, loved it. Had everything you needed. Nice to have a lovely welcome hamper. Also things like loo roll, washing up liquid etc so you dont have to go straight to supermarket on arrival.

We found The Gate House in Whitby a luxury holiday home, very well equipped, in fact everything thought of. We did worry though about spilling hot drinks while on the velvet sofas, which were very comfortable. We were also aware how easily the beautiful tiled floors would have chipped if wed have dropped anything. Although we found the cottage suitRead moreable for us, it would not suit older people with mobility issues or disabled people. One bedroom is downstairs but the only bathroom is upstairs, to use the shower the roll top bathtub is quite high to climb into. Downstairs there is a separate toilet and small basin. The furnishings in the cottage were very tasteful and expensive, lovely paintings on the walls, the beds very, very comfortable, good hotel style bed linen. The kitchen was well fitted, dishwasher and washing machine ,plus an American fridge freeezer. 3 flat screen TVs, books and games to keep guests amused. Plenty of parking. There is a main road running by the cottage but even with the upstairs bedroom windows open it wasnt noisy at night. Hide

We stayed at this property last year and were looking forward to a return visit. However, after a 5 hour drive and looking forward to a nice cup of tea we were disappointed that the welcome pack this year consisted of a few bags of broken pieces of chocolate. when last year it was a jar of Kenco coffee, a box of teabags and a nice bottle of wine. WRead moree did not expect to have to go and find a supermarket straight away to purchase these basics that were supplied last year. Also, there were no slip-on slippers as there were last year. The TV in the lounge still does not work properly and constantly loses the picture. This is being blamed on a broken transmitter which I find strange as the TV's in the other rooms work fine. There was mould around the bathroom shower screen and black marks behind the taps. The less said about the plastic bath mat the better, it looks disgusting. All in all, this is very sad as it was excellent last year. We also noticed that other visitors sang the praises of the welcome pack so perhaps it was just us, but it felt like penny-pinching, and as I have said above, I could have done without having to drive to a supermarket after a 5-hour drive to the cottage. Although generally well equipped in other ways, I would no longer class this cottage as 5-star. Hide

The property was lovely and clean with high spec decor. However, it was located near to a busy junction with a set of traffic lights which, made it quite noisy. Should the weather have been nice enough to sit outside the noise of the traffic would have made it impossible to do so. In addition the outside seating area was left covered in debris and Read moreshould have been cleaned prior to our arrival. We would not rebook this property for the negative reasons outlined. Hide
