Treat yourselves to a stay in this immaculate cottage at the heart of historic York. Sleeping four guests, and welcoming canine companions, it makes an excellent option for couples and small families seeking a stylish yet characterful base. Complete with a courtyard for outdoor city living, the enticing retreat has a wood burner to relax beside during the chiller months. It is well-placed for the many independent shops and eateries of the city, as well as York Minster and the city walls, just 1 mile away.

Step into this impressive holiday home, which has been exquisitely renovated to ensure it offers chic accommodation at every turn. Gather in the tastefully decorated lounge, with its parquet floor and plantation shutters, to unwind in front of the crackling wood burner and your favourite boxset on the Smart TV. The gorgeous kitchen has been carefully fitted out with everything you might require during your stay on those occasions you choose not to dine out. Congregate round the table in the dining area for your celebratory meals, opening the door to the garden on summer days. A WC and a utility area are also downstairs. Your two sumptuous bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, are up on the first floor of the cottage. The beautiful family bathroom, which has a free-standing bath as well as a shower, is also up here. Have morning coffee out in the courtyard on summer days before heading off to explore York. While away lazy evenings over a chilled bottle of wine out here too.

Wander less than 1 mile to potter in the narrow streets known as the Shambles, with their colourful shops, tea shops and restaurants. The Jorvik Centre, just over 0.5 miles away, is a fascinating place for those with a love of history to visit.

Excellent terrace house within walking distance from station, central York, a great local pub for meals, cafe, and a park and river walk for the dog. Owner had supplied dog bowls (wed brought our own but nice to know), treats and even a lead if youd forgotten it. Victorian house so it was cold at night. Need to use heating which is supplied but you may need to alter the temp as set at 16 degrees. Narrow steep stairs to bedrooms and bathroom. TV handset temperamental. Kitchen well equipped & basic condiments & kitchen items supplied.Good outside space with furniture. Just need good weather. Lot of local shopRead mores closed early in week. Fine for a short break. York busy and too many tourist shops. Hide

Number 41 is a lovely house. Meticulously clean, with everything we could want for a comfortable stay. Lots of thought had clearly gone into what guests would need. And the little things for dogs was a pleasant surprise (I've never seen that in a holiday cottage before!).
