Enjoy walks from the doorstep during your stay at this dog-friendly abode in the village of Muker, where the long-distance Pennine Way and Coast to Coast trails meet. An ideal holiday base for a grown-up family or friends’ group, it has a sociable open-plan living space plus three blissful bedrooms – one an en-suite – and a pretty courtyard garden. For more stunning moorland scenery, drive the Buttertubs Pass from Thwaite, just over a mile away, to Hawes (8 miles). A popular starting point for walks in Swaledale and the northern parts of the national park, diminutive Muker is a great getaway-from-it-all location, surrounded by wildflower meadows and set on the hillside above the River Swale.

Among attractive dry-stone walls and slate-roofed cottages, this three-bedroomed holiday cottage accommodates a party of five and one well-behaved pet in supreme comfort. Stroll through the walled front garden and you’ll enter an open-plan living space with stone flooring. Unwind in the lounge area after a day of outdoor adventure – there’s a choice of seating in front of the wood burner and Smart TV. Close by, the kitchen area has all the essentials for fuss-free self-catering; enjoy the meals you create at the adjacent dining table. A utility room and separate cloakroom complete the ground floor layout. As bedtime approaches, head upstairs to three beautifully furnished bedrooms. The first is a king-size with its own en-suite shower room, the second is a twin and the third has a single bed. A contemporary family bathroom ensures convenience for all. Enjoy fresh air and country views from the enclosed courtyard-style garden to the front of the cottage; there’s furniture so you can enjoy food and drinks as you watch the world go by.

A mile to the west, Thwaite sits in Upper Swaledale, one of the northernmost valleys in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Just 8 miles to the south, Hawes is one of England's highest towns and home of the world-famous Wensleydale Cheese. At the eastern edge of the Dales, Richmond (20 miles) offers a step back in time with its iconic castle, historic buildings and cobbled marketplace.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location if you enjoy walking. Well located near to The Farmer Arms which serves delicious food. The cottage is very well decorated with modern appliances. I wouldn't recommend to anyone who is thinking of renting with a dog though - the property doesn't have a back or side garden, only the patio paved area on the fronRead moret - we found it very difficult with our little dog who jumped the front wall twice on the first day, straight on to the road to see other dogs. Lovely cottage well equipped and nicely furnished with good taste, and a quality feel. Brookside Cottage is the perfect place to stay if you enjoy walking but a lovely quiet village to relax in even if you don't because the surrounding countryside is beautiful. Situated in the village of Muker where there is a good pub/restaurant, the cottage is well equipped, clean and comfortable. What more could you want?
